Poem by Janie Lyvon
Love allotted by the purest of heart
cannot be deemed a mere sin.
For is love not seen to be genderless
as the very soul dwelling in our mortal vessel?
Who is a meager man to define such sinfulness;
and is it not deemed an infernal sin
to enact God’s judgment?
Using His word as opposed to Him upon those deemed unworthy
corrupting what depicts His benevolent image,
the one spoken about as a forgiving and all-knowing deity.
One cannot live draped in true trepidations of wickedness
never taming thy venomous tongue,
harboring unrestrained, restless evil;
brimful of deadly poison.
And await those golden gates of Heaven
for embrace in death.
A person may think their own ways are right, but the Lord weighs the heart.
– Proverbs 21:2
Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies.
– Psalm 34:12-13
Reminder that love is simply love. This poem is about those who claim to be Christian yet spread hate speech. Growing up in a small town around close-minded people, the topic of homosexuality and same-sex relationships would be enough to send every devout “Christian” into an uncomfortable fit of rage. Although I identified with Christian beliefs, I found it difficult to understand this behavior. The Bible preaches about loving thy neighbor, treating others with the same kindness and compassion even if they do not share your beliefs or way of life. Jesus showed love and treated everyone equally. All who adhere to his teachings ought to put them into practice. Remember the golden rule,
“You shall not take vengeance on your kinsman or bear a grudge, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.”
– Leviticus 19:18
